[When in possession of surplus sweets, who better to contact but your drinking buddy? Claire spends some time figuring out how to work the camera and inserting a picture into a text message, but here it is.]



Take this away from me. Whenever you're not doing whatever it is pirates do in their free time, I've got more than I can stomach.

[ the reply comes several days later since he was unreachable by phone. ]

Does the offer still stand, I wonder?

[It's kept in the fridge.

Not her fault she picked some of the fruit off, though. Had to make sure it was still good.]

Did you bake it yourself?

If only. A young man named Peeta has a knack for making cakes and tarts. I took some off his hands.

[ Peeta? never heard of the guy. maybe he's new. ]

[ with a hint of luck and the navigation skills of a sailor Hook finds his way to her place rather quickly. he rings the doorbell and waits. he's lightly tanned but nothing else seems to have changed since the last time she saw him. ]

Captain. [She greets him with a smile, ushering him in. The tart is sitting on her coffee table by the sofa, and everything is rather... plain. Claire is no housekeeper and so she keeps things easy to clean.]

I almost thought you were ignoring me.

[unmoor]

[ he glances around the place briefly before turning back to her. it's fine, he's used to simple. his own place is actually way worse since he rarely spends any time there. ]

My apologies. I was... away.

Away?

[They don't get to go on holiday here. After she sits on the sofa, she pats the cushion beside her.]

Remember when we wondered what might be on the other side of the ocean?

[ that's where he went. he takes a seat as he's told. ]

... Yes. Am I going to like where this is going?

[She thought he might be a little... bronze. But she's not often seen him in normal lighting.]

Perhaps I should have asked you to join me, but the departure was rather... sudden.

[ aka he stole the ship. ]

I didn't get quite as far as I would have liked, but it was enough to quench the thirst for travel in me. For now, at least.

[She stares at him for a moment, brow furrowed. It's highly unlikely that he rented a vessel. So. She suddenly laughs.]

Pirates. Perhaps send a text, next time. I wondered why I hadn't seen you around.

[Claire may have thought she scared him off from whatever bars and pubs he frequented. Maybe. And so perhaps she got extra sweets as a sort of apology.]

[ he was kind of avoiding everyone except bottles of rum but no one needs to know that. ]

I should have. [ he smiles, glad to see her laugh. ] But a ship like that, small it might be, is still rather hard to manage on your own. I didn't have a hand to spare.

[ get it??? ]

You're horrible.

[Hand jokes are bad. Especially when she keeps thinking about her husband's smashed hand and what may have to be done with it. But enough of that. She's glad for the company.]

So, tell me. Did you see anything fascinating?

[unmoor]

[ if he only knew.... ]

I did come across some islands so it wasn't all for nothing. Never met anyone though.

Really? Not a soul there?

[Tell her more. And don't mind her as she picks up the fork to pick some fruit off the tart.]

No, instead I found many ship wrecks that met their end there.

It was smooth sailing for me, but I suppose the seas here have seen less calm times.

[ and this is where he comes to the good part. ]

Still, it wasn't wise to go off without a word. [She's not very convincing at scolding anyone when eating sweets. Not that she imagines he'll listen to her, but whatever.]

I left you a message in a bottle if that's any better.

[ no, he didn't but it's the thought that counts. his gaze stops on her mouth for a moment as she brings a raspberry to her lips. eventually he blinks, snapping out of it. ]

... I should show you what I found in one of the wrecks.

[So funny. Claire rolls her eyes, missing any gazing.]

Spanish gold? A crown? Perhaps some diamonds and rubies?

[She's just impatient.]

Finest rum. More bottles than you could imagine.

I brought back as many as I could.

[ and needless to say, emptied a few on his way here. ]
